Speaker: Multiple Speakers Feb 26, 2017 - Apr 9, 2017

When we gather we sit in rows, but real change happens in circles. We weren’t created to live life alone, we were created for deep, interconnected relationships that help us become the people God created us to be. What circles do you find yourself running in, are they relationships that build, push, resolve, and trust? Join us this series as we focus on gospel centered community, Running In Circles. Running in Circles

Listen Teaching Slides You Version Highlights & Discussion Questions

God created you to be connected to a community of people who are participating with God’s mission in the world.
In John 15.12-13 God commanded us to love one another; so we must have real relationships with others to fulfill this commandment.

You Can't Live Life Alone

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS  (you can download the full Highlights & Discussion Questions here)

Watch the Community Group Video and then discuss…

  • Share examples of relationships you have in each of the four corners.
  • Discuss the ways we naturally separate from others.
  • Corner 4 relationships are only possible because of Jesus. Personally, what is holding you back from Corner 4 relationships?
  • How can you help each other overcome these things that stop you from Corner 4 relationships?
  • As a group, repent and ask for forgiveness for the things in you that keep you from forming Corner 4 relationships.
  • If you don’t know what is holding you back from Corner 4 relationships, invite a good friend out for coffee and ask for their honest input, or email several friends and ask them to share “one thing you appreciate about me in our relationship and what is one thing I do that is holding me back from true relationship?”

This Week’s Take Away…

  • What did the teaching mean to me?
  • How would I share it with others?
  • How will I use it to grow closer to Christ?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS  (you can download the full Highlights & Discussion Questions here)

  • What are some of the ways you get fueled? Physical, emotional, mental or spiritual?
  • Rugged commitment is a deep interdependent relationship that helps you become more like Jesus. Think of people in your life who support you with rugged commitment. How did you get to this point? What might be holding you back from this type of commitment with others?
  • How you receive feedback…with a Fixed Mindset or a Growth Mindset?
  • It is easy for groups to meet together every week and not really know each other. Groups can fall into Corner 3 or 2 relationships, but we want Corner 4 group relationships.
    • For newer groups: How can you get to a point where you fuel each other?
    • For ongoing groups: Do you have people in your group willing to offer feedback? How does your group handle feedback?

  • As you continue to work toward Corner 4 relationships, what areas does your group do well and what areas do you need to work on?
    • Heaven – we need to admit we have junk
    • Humans – we all have value
    • Honesty – we tell the truth
    • Health – we need to enjoy each other
  • For newer groups: Continue to remind each other that you need to enjoy each other. Help each other feel safe sharing stories and struggles.
  • For ongoing groups: Read Col 3.4-15 together. Discuss some honesty that you need to share with each other
  • Pray that you will become ruggedly committed to each other and become safe people for each other so your group will thrive.

Loving people that push stretch you to become who God created you to be.

  • Personally, do you have people who push you in love?
  • Who are the people that you push?

As a group, in which of these areas do you push each other well? What areas challenge your group?

  • People (unified by the gospel FOR each other, not people OF someone or something)
  • Presence (commitment to physical, mental, emotional and relational presence)
  • Purpose (defining goals and celebrating wins)
  • Pursuit (reminding each other of our status through Jesus)

Once you identify your group challenge, let this guide you to Corner 4 relationships.

For newer groups:

  • Talk through each aspect of content, coaching and community and discuss what structure is missing for you personally.
  • How can you set up structure in your life so you can grow into and live the life God intended for you?
  • Are you ready to let the people in your group be the hammer and chisel God uses to shape you into His masterpiece?

For existing groups:

  • Go through the questions above, as it pertains to your group as a whole.
  • We tend to stay where we are comfortable. To grow as a group, do you need more emphasis on, content, coaching, or community?
  • How can you as a group provide structure for each member of the group in order to be successful in maintaining a well-balance corner-four diet for the rest of your life?

Your group may be ready to start sharing personal stories. Spend some time having one or two people share their story each week as you work toward Corner 4.

This week we talked about Triangulation and the VPR Triad (Victim, Persecutor and Rescuer).

  • Many times it’s easier to get involved with this passive aggressive type of relationship rather than deal with the true conflict. If you have found yourself in a VPR Triad, explain which role you have taken on. How could you handle this differently in the future?
  • If this is a problem in your group, discuss the issue honestly and help each other work toward reconciliation.

  • The level of trust in your group will depend in part on how long you have been meeting and how well you really know each other. Discuss what level of trust you feel you have in your group. What could you work on to increase your group’s level of trust?
  • Practice opening up and then trusting each other. Tell your story, even that last 20% you wouldn’t share with most people.
  • As you continue to tell your personal stories with each other, share how you got to CCC? Who is Jesus to you? How is Jesus changing your life or working on you?
